NAHCİVAN ÖZERK CUMHURİYETİ Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is a land of mountains. Over 30% of its territory lies on the altitude of 600-1000 m, about 50% up to 2000 m. and 20% is above 2000 m. The Republic is rich with its minerals.
The deposits of the rock salt are exhausted in Nehram, Nakhchivan and Sustin. . There are a lot of mineral springs there such as Badamli, Sirab, Nagajir, Kiziljir where water contains arsenic.
The climate of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is continental with its varieties in temperature: from +43 in summer to - 30 in winter. Particularly little precipitation (200 - 300 mm) fall in PreArazian Plain, where semi-desert prevails more. The lack of moisture is felt in the mountains as well. . In the plant life there are over 100 forms of medicinal, ether-oil, rubber-bearing, honey-bearing plants. Besides Araz there are about 40 small rivers: Ordubadchay, Gilanchay, Alinjachay, Nakhchivanchay and Eastern Arpachay and these rivers are nourished by rain and slush waters.

At present there are 297 libraries, 265 clubs, 15 museums, a picutre-gallery, 2 State theatre-houses, 6 cultural and resting parks, 25 nursery musics and art schools in the Autonomous Republic.
The Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic is rich in historical and artistic architectural monuments. These monuments have brought the people’s ancient sources of culture up to nowadays

Nakhichivan Autonomous Republic is the most ancient Azerbaijan land with multicentral history and rich material-cultural monuments. The local tribes made a sedentary life in the late Stone Age here and were engaged in various household and professional work.
The word "Nakhchivan" was derived form the initial source and attached different meanings. The city was called in Greek "Naksuana", in Pahlavi "Nakheh", in Arabic "Nashava" or "Nakhchuan", "Nakhjuan" or "Nagshejahan
