my cat sees me
with round, small eyes
over his nose and whiskers
he thinks that
i have big, shapeless eyes
and no whiskers
my cat pities me
he sleeps on my lap
my hands on his hair
murmurs happily
he doesn't like
the way i sleep
alone, in the same bed
my cat pities me
he thinks that
he's the best cat
i've ever seen
but i don't believe him!

They Called Me
To The Country of Poetry
Late,
One evening
They called me
To the Country of Poetry.
They said,
"Come quickly!"
If not,
"No tickets will remain."
The streets of the Country of Poetry
Have flowers on the pavements.
They smell
So distinctively.
Travellers pass along the streets.
They disappear,
Leaving something scribbled on a scrap of paper...
Some odd writings.
Some people read them
Others throw them away.
But they are inexhaustible
Those odd scribblings.
Travellers come
To the Country of Poetry.
And sometimes are unable to procure
A return ticket.
They drift along
The narrow streets
And pick up flowers
With unusual formations.
Tonight,
There's a free
Ticket available.
A one-way ticket.
I salute the ones who stay
In the Country of Poetry,
For it's the county of
The lonely, poor and peculiar.
Unfortunately,
It's not possible for you
To enter...

Fide ERKEN
She was born in Bursa,in 1967. She spent the first seven years of her childhood in Trilye, a pretty village of Mudanya. Then she came to Bursa with her family. She finished primary, secondary and high schools in Bursa. After high school she attended the department of Industrial Engineering in Middle East Technical University. After finishing the prep and first class there she left that school and entered the department of English in Uludag University. She was graduated from that school in the year 1991. She's still been working as an English teacher in Bursa.
Fide Erken says that poetry is in people's nature and that she first was tempted by this emotional current in primary school. She stepped the beginning leading her to further points in poetry by having two awards in poetry competitions when she was in high school. Some of her poems were first published in "Öner" art magazine and in a local newspaper journal. She's been taken attention with her English poems for some years. Her poems are published in some internet sites and magazines. The fluency in her poems she writes integrating love of poeple and nature determinates her place in the poetry world.
Fide Erken is married and has a daughter.

1967 yılında Bursa'da doğdu. Çocukluğunun ilk yedi yılı Mudanya'nın şirin nahiyesi Trilye'de geçti. Daha sonra ailesiyle Bursa'ya geldi. İlk,orta ve liseyi burada okudu. Liseden sonra girdiği Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Endüstri Mühendisliği bölümünden hazırlık ve birinci sınıflarını okuyarak ayrıldı. Uludağ Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi İngiliz Dili ve Eğitimi bölümünden 1991 yılında mezun oldu. Halen Bursa'da İngilice öğretmeni olarak görevini sürdürmektedir.
Fide ERKEN : "Şiirin insann yapısında var olduğunu belirtirken bu duygu akımına ilk olarak ilkokulda kapıldığını" söylemektedir. Lise yıllarında okul çapında düzenlenen yarışmalarda iki ödül alarak duygu dünyasında kendisini daha ileriye götürecek başlangıca adımını attı. Şiirlerinden bir kaç Bursa'da "Öner" sanat dergisinde ve bir yerel gazetenin kültür sanat ekinde yayınlandı. Birkaç senedir de İngilizce yazdığı şiirleriyle dikkatleri çekmektedir. Şiirleri günümüzde çeşitli sitelerde ve yayınlarda yer almaktadır.
İnsan ve doğa sevgisini bütünleştirerek kaleme aldığı şiirlerindeki akıcılık onun şiir dünyasındaki yerini belirlemektedir..
